Tomato For Kids Growing Tomatoes With Kids

One of the easiest things for kids to grow themselves are tomatoes.  Tomatoes can be grow in almost any kind of container and even hung upside down.  You can start your own tomato seeds, or buy small tomato plants.  Plant the small tomato plants as deeply as possible with only a few leaves left above ground.  Roots will form along the stem underground and make a stronger plant.

Do not save and use tomato seeds from tomatos you have purchased.  These are hybrid tomatos and will not grow as well as seed you can buy.

Kids love cherry tomatoes and other small salad type tomatoes.  These mature very quickly and provide gratification to the children over and over each day. Wether you grow tomatoes in a graden or in a pot on the porch, they make a wonderful “pet” type plant that a child can grow and feel rewarded.

Tomatoes For Kids

It is a well known fact that everyone should be getting at least five servings of fruit and vegetables per day. But how many of us are truly getting that recommended dosage? The answer is “not many.” Many of us would rather grab a bag of chips then take the time to wash a few grapes. And kids aren’t the only ones who are responsible for this type of behavior. Many adults also avoid fresh veggies and fruit. So what can we do in order to fulfill our five recommended daily doses? And better yet, how can we entice our kids to adapt these healthy eating habits?

One way to add more fruit into your kids’ diet is to prepare a fresh fruit breakfast smoothie every morning. Use some of their favorite fruit and create a smoothie that is more of a breakfast treat than anything else. You can also incorporate fruit and veggies into their lunch. If your child enjoys a turkey sandwich for lunch, try adding some lettuce and tomato. And if your child likes a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, try adding in some banana slices. After school, be sure that your kids have their favorite fruit or vegetable juice with their meal. You can even dress their cups up with cocktail umbrellas and fancy straws to make the drink appear more appealing. Another great after school snack are apple slices with peanut butter. Kids and parents love this yummy treat.

If your kids happen to like salad, this is yet another area where you can get creative. You can cut up a bunch of different veggies so that your kids can make a colorful and fun to eat salad. And if all else fails, absolutely no child will say no to ice cream. You can take this opportunity to top the cold treat with fresh fruit, like strawberries, raspberries, or any other favorites. These are just a few suggestions in attaining our five servings of fruit and vegetables.
