Cat grass is very easy to grow and a great project for indoor gardening with kids.  The seed will come up in one to two days, so the kids can have immediate rewards before they forget the project like they tend to do if they plant something that takes a long time to come up.

Cat grass, sweet oats, is good for both cats and dogs to eat so it makes a good Bible school kids gardening project also.  It grows about one inch per day, so if you plant it at the beginning of the week, you will have a planter, or styrofoam cup of cat grass that is 3-4 inches tall by the end of the week.

Oats or wheat grass that is recommended for pets costs about $4.00 for 750 seeds and the germination should be over 90%, so it is very affordable.  If the kids want to eat the sprouts, it is also good for them, so you don’t have to worry about that.
